"Honoring Distinguished Women on International Women’s Day"

The Advisory Forum for Local Councilwomen in Palestine (Takamul), in cooperation with the Ministries of Local Government and Women’s Affairs, and Al-Bireh Municipality, honored distinguished women activists on Wednesday in celebration of International Women’s Day. The event, held at the Children’s Happiness Center in Al-Bireh, was attended by Bassem Al-Khatib, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs; Azzam Ismail, Mayor of Al-Bireh; Tareq Omeir, Director of the Local Government Directorate in Ramallah and Al-Bireh; and several local officials and community leaders.

Forum Chairwoman Yola Atrash Khair opened with a tribute to Palestinian women, honoring their sacrifices and struggle for freedom and equality. She emphasized the role of Palestinian women as steadfast guardians of the national cause and called for an end to discrimination and marginalization, advocating for full equality and empowerment across all fields.

Al-Khatib highlighted women’s vital contributions to both the national struggle and community development. He announced a new initiative aimed at supporting female breadwinners through financial grants for five ongoing projects, in collaboration with the National Bank, the Ministry of Local Government’s Gender Forum, and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

Mayor Ismail extended his congratulations on International Women’s Day, acknowledging Palestinian women’s sacrifices, especially in Jerusalem. Tareq Omeir also stressed the importance of enhancing women’s roles in local councils and decision-making processes, noting the challenges many women face within these institutions.

The celebration concluded with a traditional dance performance by the Asael Folk Dance Troupe, followed by an award ceremony recognizing women council members and distinguished women leaders.

"Interactive Digital Identity Workshop on Gender Issues"

The workshop aimed to equip local councilwomen with skills for engaging effectively with media and social media, using digital technology to raise awareness and advocate for women's rights from a gendered perspective. Participants explored strategies for building digital networks to advance the social, political, and legal status of women through digital platforms. The workshop, titled "Interactive Digital Identity on Gender Issues," focused on fostering a proactive digital presence to support gender-related causes and amplify women's voices across various media channels.
